Online Sales To Top $200 Billion

Online retail sales will reach $211.4 billion this year, a 20 percent rise from $176.4 billion in 2005, according to the 2006 State of Retailing Online, a study conducted by Forrester Research, Inc. for shop.org, the online arm of the National Retail Federation.

Excluding travel spending, online retail sales will reach $138 billion in 2006, Forrester projects. The survey also found that 63 percent of retailers require card verification value (CVV) codes at checkout as a security measure, 25 percent accept private-label cards, 12 percent offer third-party e-mail payment options, and 33 percent allow customers to gather loyalty points across sales channels.
